The arrogant and well-dressed Joe in front is a captured Nazi officer. The gloom-faced character beside him is his dog robber. A "dog robber" is a term for a soldier or airman assigned to a commissioned officer as a personal servant. It is also sometimes refered to as a "batman or batwoman."
